11 kilometers from Rethymno right on the coast is a nice and cozy village of Skaleta. It is not considered the center of resort life. There is a quiet and measured life, so tourists who are looking for a quiet place to spend their holidays like to come here. The infrastructure of the village includes hotels of different categories of comfort, several authentic taverns, shops, car rental offices, real estate office (for those who want to rent a villa). Most resort complexes offer service on the system “All inclusive”. Some of them develop for their guests an entertainment program for the whole season.
Residents of the village are very welcoming travelers. Several hiking routes have been developed for them, and there is really something to see in Skaleta. Several churches are perfectly preserved here:

- evangelicals;
- Virgin Mary;
- the Holy Spirit;
- Saint Irene.
Temples are active, except for the evangelical church. It has preserved ancient frescoes, and against its background you can create unique photographs. The route to the Mili Gorge and the Melidoni Cave is popular. Activities in the surrounding area include horse riding.

Geropotamos is a good place to relax, besides a river flows nearby, on the banks of which ducks are found, and trout splash in the water. Not all hotels in the village of Skaleta are suitable for a parent with children. This category of holidaymakers is best to stay in Corali Beach or Rethymno Mare Royal & Water Park, on the territory of which a water park is built. You also need to remember that not all the coast is suitable for bathing children. The main beach of the village, next to which there are all the above resort hotels, is the most acceptable option for relaxing with kids.
