Sights of Belokurikha – what to see in 1 day

The balneological resort of All-Russian significance Belokurikha was founded in 1867. The local climate is characterized by high temperatures for this part of Siberia, and by the number of sunny days it is equated to the Crimea and the resorts of the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus. There are no sharp changes in atmospheric pressure, there is mainly windless weather. In the Soviet period, sanatoriums were built in which the leaders of the state and their families rested. For a long time in Belokurikha lived the writer Paustovsky. During the Second World War, the pioneer camp “Artek” was evacuated here.

The first Orthodox church was built in the pre-revolutionary period. In Soviet times, it was dilapidated and in its place there was a sanatorium “Altai”. After the fall of the USSR, the local authorities decided to fill the gap and build a new temple. The place for construction was chosen next to the spring with healing water. It is called the “Eye Spring”, it has been known for more than 100 years and its water has a beneficial effect on the restoration of vision. It is useful for people of different ages, from infants to gray-haired old people. The territory of the source is landscaped. Water is brought into the pipe, a wooden chapel is built over the spring. Museum of Rural Life “Water Mill”

From the Church of St. Panteleimon you need to walk along the picturesque Dalnaya Street, turn into Battle Lane and go to Akademika Myasnikov Street, then turn to Slavsky. Next to the Gulyaev Museum there is an interesting object – the Water Mill. It houses an exposition of rural life. The uniqueness lies in the fact that the hydraulic structure operates. It is set in motion by the Tatar Stream. Just a few meters from the mill it flows into the Belokurikha River.

The museum is a miller’s house, a yard with agricultural implements, a small field with haystacks, a well, grazing cattle. Everything is done in such a way that visitors fully plunge into the atmosphere of peasant life. Flour is produced at the mill, pies are baked in a Russian painted stove, a small vegetable garden is laid out near the house. The author of the compositional solution V. Voychyshyn received high-ranking officials at his facility, who treated his museum with due reverence. He created a mill and a farmstead according to his childhood memories, when his grandfather took him from Barnaul to a deaf Altai village for the holidays.

Mount “Tserkovka”

It is the highest mountain in the vicinity of the resort. It got its name because of the bizarre shape of the rock, resembling a church dome. To enhance the impression and justify the name, an Orthodox cross is installed directly above the top of the rock. But the legend of the mountain is not connected with Orthodoxy. According to legend, the couple of the first settlers did not have children for a long time. The head of the family began to come to the mountain and pray to the Holy Spirit for procreation. After prayers and shed tears, the Master of the mountain had mercy on the man and saved his wife from infertility. As a token of gratitude, the man arranged the first sanctuary on the mountain. The rock ensemble also includes the sisters Khudyshka, Pampushka, Tolstushka and Slim, “Two Brothers”.

Excursion tours are organized to the top of Tserkovka. Guides tell about the secrets of the past, the Master of the mountain, his sons and daughters. In memory of the good spirit of Altai, which fulfilled the wishes of people, the mountain is installed OB – a stone structure for rituals and sacrifices. To appease the mountain spirit, you need to bring him a coin as a gift. Then he will fulfill the cherished desire. On the mountain there is a café where you can have a snack and admire the surrounding landscapes. There is also a forge. The owner will hold a master class, after which the visitor will be able to independently make a souvenir for himself. Near the forge there are souvenir shops. Their assortment includes forged products, stone and wooden jewelry, Altai honey and other local handicraft products.

Museum of Blacksmithing in Altai

After visiting the forge on Mount Tserkovka, many people have a desire to learn more about the local traditions of blacksmithing. Therefore, it is worth driving along the Katun-1 highway to Taiga Lane and turn into Stroiteley Street. Here in the house number 72 is the Museum of Blacksmithing in the Altai. It was organized by Anna Biletskaya, who fell in love and mastered blacksmithing skills. The basis of the exposition was originally items made by the craftswoman. Today it presents the works of local artists and blacksmiths from all over the Altai. Exhibitions occupy several rooms. Tourists from Europe and America come to admire the elegant forged products. They are also the main buyers of products.

Anna has a law degree. She managed to organize a comfortable zone for the presentation and implementation of her works. The blacksmiths who joined her also received an excellent platform for organizing their own exhibitions-sales. Excursions are conducted on a paid basis. At the end, guests will find a cup of Altai tea from a real samovar. Today, Anna and her husband are working on a new project. With the money of the Presidential Grant, they are building the Village of Masters in the new resort area of Belokurikha-2.

Silver Museum

Another museum deserves special attention. To visit it, you need to return to Slavskogo Street. In the house number 9 there is a unique exposition of gold and silver products. This is a private collection of the sculptor-jeweler Vladimir Voychishin. The master’s works are complemented by works of art of the 17-18 centuries, which the owner collected throughout his life. His work has always been in demand, so many works are in private collections, and the most famous of them – “Roshild’s Violin” – in the Hermitage exposition. At the opening of the museum, the author wished that his visit was free.

At one time, the artist’s studio turned into a museum for high-ranking people. Ministers and officials came here. The only ones who did not know about the existence of the collection were ordinary people. Then Voychyshyn appealed to the head of the city for help in organizing the museum. In 2017, on the territory of the sanatorium “Belokurikha”, in the premises of the literary and musical living room, an exposition of works of art created from precious metals was opened. The museum is open on weekdays from 14.00 to 17.00. The author transferred the entire collection to other private hands.

«FotoLand park»

On the outskirts of the city is a new art park with funny and puzzle objects. The author of the idea was the artist-designer Viktor Gordienko. In the creation of art objects, he used broken vehicles, natural stones, metal, bottles and a lot of other materials, the place of which is in the landfill. On the old iron gate leading to the park, there is a saying by Kuzma Prutkov “Look at the root”. Thus, the author pointed to the secret meaning of each sculpture created by him. Here it is interesting to wander, take pictures, laugh at the satirical depiction of reality. The bus with the inscription: “Time Machine” is equipped with tables (where art, there is food). Soon the author plans to open a gallery of works by local artists. This idea is fully supported by the city administration.

Chocolate Museum

Such masters as Gordienko and Voychyshyn create a separate history of the city’s attractions. The Chocolate Museum is another creation of Vladimir Voichishin. The exposition of chocolate figurines is located in a detached small house on the outskirts of the forest. Today we can safely call it the first museum-shop operating on the territory of the belokurikha-2 resort under construction. To drive to it, you need to climb the serpentine to the very top, and then turn onto a dirt road. 400 meters from the serpentine, surrounded by pines and Christmas trees, there is a modest house built of glued timber.

Inside there are oak racks, where figures of fairy-tale heroes, forest dwellers, heroes – defenders of Russia, as well as prominent political figures of the country and the world are stored under glass. Exhibits are smelted elsewhere, as special conditions must be created for their casting. The author prefers to work with dark chocolate. It is delivered from Belgium, Austria and Colombia. White chocolate is brought from Novosibirsk. Casting duplicates is carried out by the museum curators. They also sell their favorite copies of the exhibits.

Belokurikha City Museum. S.I. Gulyaeva in the building of the old balnoyee

The City Museum offers to get acquainted with the history of the region, the resort, the legends and tales of Belokurikha. The institution works free of charge, receives visitors from 10.00 to 18.00 on weekdays. Halls can open on weekends, if you pre-register for a tour. The exposition is hung in the old room of the mud baths. In the mid-30s of the last century on this place there was a sanatorium with radon baths. Until recently, it was the only equipped place where people could undergo mud procedures. Since the mid-90s, the situation has changed. Hotels began to independently provide procedural treatment, conducting water-mud supply in buildings and separate superior rooms.

In 1997, it was decided to organize a museum of local lore in the premises of the hospital. He was named in honor of the researcher of the Siberian lands Stepan Gulyaev. A one-story building with columns in front of the entrance is itself a historical exhibit. In the halls collected and exhibited materials about the birth and formation of the resort, its life and development by era. Viewing begins with the origins. The hall presents materials about the first hospitals with primitive baths and wells. The second hall is devoted to the secrets of the underground laboratory, in particular, the biocompost and useful properties of local water. The third hall contains information about all the famous people who visited, built and developed the resort.

Thermal springs

Thermal springs belokurikha have no analogues in the world. Next to each of them today is a sanatorium. Of the resort area built 19 pieces. It is not necessary to live on their territory, to obtain medical procedures, it is enough to issue a course. Some hotels provide a similar service to their guests. The owners are well aware that not all of their guests are ready to live in sanatorium conditions. Hotels by default offer a more comfortable stay, do not insist on full board and especially do not set regime rules.

Local baths relieve acute pain, normalize hormonal levels, are used for diseases of the nervous system, gastrointestinal tract, joints, heart and blood vessels, kidneys. The waters are saturated with radon, nitrogen, fluorine, silicic acid and other useful elements. Prices for courses are quite affordable, everyone can afford treatment. All sanatoriums near the thermal springs are good in their own way. In the process of walking around the city, you can go to each of them, ask about the conditions, prices and a set of procedures.

Coming to Belokurikha for one day is unprofitable. Usually they stay here for 10 or more days to undergo a full course of treatment. Procedures are prescribed in the morning, and then you can explore the surroundings of the resort, its nature, which once conquered Paustovsky. For lovers of health tourism, hiking routes have been developed – health and health grounds.

Route “Old Mill”

Walking path of health starts from the city center from the sanatorium “Belokurikha”. The length in one direction is 4 km. The way passes by the sanatoriums “Altai-West”, “Russia”, “Siberia”, “Katun”, “Belokur”, children’s sanatorium Krayzdrava. Near it there is a gate with a health park scheme. If you can get here by car or public transport, then only a hiking trail is laid further. From here to the Old Mill – 1950 m. The path goes along the bank of the river, along the way there are gazebos for recreation, surrounded by high cedars. You need to cross the river on a suspension bridge. Then it remains about a kilometer to the final destination. This is a clearing on which horizontal bars and bars are installed. A distinctive sign is a wooden mill. This is an art object that carryes only semantic meaning. Here you can relax, do physical education, and then go on the way back.

Route of health ground No3 Round Mountain

This health resort also starts in the center, at the city spa. Length – 5 km. The final point is located on The Round Mountain in the area of the rock ensembles “Four Brothers”, “Gate of Love”, “Stone Waterfall”. This is not the easiest wellness route. It is usually recommended to be used as a cardio workout. The angle of ascent is on average 45 degrees, gentle areas alternate with steep climbs. It is recommended to take the route in the morning, while the trail is illuminated by sunlight. In the afternoon, a kind of twilight comes here. The sun goes to the other side of the mountains and the road remains in the shade.

Stone waterfall

A natural attraction resembling a waterfall of stones, is located on the slope of Mount Round. The sign “Bypass Trail” leads to it. In a couple of minutes, an amazing sight will open before your eyes. Frozen ledges create a picture of a frozen waterfall. This is an amazing sight, one of many that the Altai Mountains give to travelers. Near this miracle of nature there are boulders on which you can sit down and admire the beauty. on the rock there are safe ledges, which climb the brave fans of photo shoots.

Lonely pine

If you stand with your back to the path that led to the “waterfall”, then on the right you can see the path. It will lead to the Lonely Pine – a place legendary and mysterious. From a distance, the tree looks as if it was grown in the Japanese bonsai tradition. It grows on a rock ledge, where by default there should be no land. How the roots of the tree were fixed remains a mystery. The age-old pine is surrounded by tales and legends. Near her it is customary to make wishes associated with romantic attachments. Pine is popularly called the Tree of Love. Several health resorts lead to the sights, in particular, from the sanatorium “Katun”. You can also get to it by ski slope from the sanatorium “Russia”.

Four Brothers

People say that the Spirit of the mountain had many children. They all became rocks. “Four Brothers” is one of the most interesting mountain formations. It is clear that the rock owes its unusual shape to water and wind. But I want to believe the legend that once boulders were real people. An ancient legend tells the story of five brothers who came to these parts in search of a new home. They liked the place very much – healing water, thermal springs, forests filled with life-giving air and medicinal herbs. The brothers decided to single-handedly use natural gifts, and at the same time to fill the lake with earth, where streams with “living water” flowed. The younger brother resisted and then the elders planned to kill him. Early in the morning they took spears and lifted them over the head of the young man. But then they suffered God’s punishment, four brothers petrified as they stood – shoulder to shoulder. Junior revealed to people the secrets of the healing power of local nature, and the landscape was replenished with a unique rock. The road to the attraction begins from the sanatorium “Russia”.

Rock “Gate of Love”

A little further from the Four Brothers is the rock “Gate of Love”. No one knows when and how huge boulders fell on top of each other. But they formed something like a gate through which only 2 people can pass. Hence the romantic name. The heap of stones is recognized as a natural monument and is one of the directions of hiking, walking, health routes.

Address of the beginning of the route: Slavskogo str., 34, Altai Krai, Belokurikha

If you have free time, transport (personal or rented), the desire to get acquainted with altai, you can visit several interesting objects. They are located on the territory of the new resort area Belokurikha-2. It is located 12 kilometers from the city and is a separate tourist destination.

Ski complex “Mishina Gora”

In 2010, the authorities decided to expand the range of services of the resort area. After some time, the construction of Belokurikha-2 began. At the end of January 2019, the grand opening of the ski complex “Mishina Gora” took place. The mild climate and snowy winter contributed to the development of the ski area. The infrastructure of the complex includes a rope tow, a tubing track with a Baby elevator, a rental of alpine skis, snowboards and other equipment. So far, 2 tracks have been equipped. They are certified by the International Federation FIS for slalom competitions.

So far, only one hotel has been built on the mountain. Tourists still prefer the hotels of Belokurikha with their service and sanatorium services. Near the descent there is a first-aid post, a rescue service, instructors, a café “Pancake”. There are buses and minibuses, there is parking for personal transport.

Tungsten mine

The complex of the new resort area includes the historical monument “Tungsten Mine”. The mining and processing plant was founded in 1939, and reorganized in 1954. Since then, several miraculously surviving metal structures have remained on the abandoned site. The territory was decided to be transformed into an open-air museum. In addition to the restored mechanisms, there were auto exhibits, in particular, the swamp rover ZIS-5, art objects. One of them is located at the entrance and is a giant kylo lying near a huge boulder.

In the abandoned working village preserved club, shop, school, bakery, several courtyards, bath, office. In the working area there is an adit, a tungsten warehouse, a narrow gauge railway, a screen, a mine sash, a power plant. At one time, the village prospered and gave the country thousands of tons of ore. But in 1954, the production was closed, recognizing the mine as not profitable. The workers went home. For a couple of years, the property was guarded on a voluntary basis by a watchman from the locals. Then he left. The working village was overgrown with weeds, the equipment rusted, the houses began to collapse. Today, restoration work is underway, some objects have already been cleaned and painted with fresh paint. The mine is recognized as a historical monument, so work on its restoration will continue.

Andreevskaya Sloboda

The historical and architectural complex is the central tourist site in Belokurikha-2. The concept is to create an authentic 19th-century Siberian village. The house of the Tomsk merchant Andreev, who traded along the entire coast of the Ob and stopped with goods in distant parishes, was taken as a basis. His fiefdom in the Altai was the village of Verkh-Anuyskoye. There the merchant built a two-story house, which was later carefully moved to a new recreational area. This building is the main object of the museum “Andreevskaya Sloboda”.

The complex includes six more objects. The House of Bread is modeled after a 19th-century bakery. In addition to the characteristic atmosphere, it contains ancient recipes for baking bakery products. The locomobile appeared in the exposition by accident. He was found in a remote Mountain Altai village, bought from the villagers, brought, cleaned, painted, installed. This vehicle was used for threshers, mills, fans as a drive. Everything is for real in the forge. It was founded by Anna Biletskaya and constantly comes here to create another forged masterpiece. In the House of the Medicine Woman samples of all medicinal herbs of Altai are collected. The keeper knows conspiracies and other ways to treat human ailments. The barn and distillery do not need a special introduction. It is interesting to come here and see the process of production of the great-grandfather of vodka – bread wine. Entrance fee.
