All fans of the detective genre know that the place of the deadly battle of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Moriarty was Reichenbach Falls. But few people know that the iconic place is located in the vicinity of the Swiss municipality of Meiringen. The town is located in the gorge of the Aare River near Lake Brienz between Interlaken and Lucerne. The first mention of it dates back to 1234, and Arthur Conan Doyle brought him worldwide fame after he visited here in 1892.
The romantic village of Meiringen is confidently becoming a popular ski resort. Its hotels are ready to receive guests all year round. Skiers and snowboarders are quite satisfied with the tracks, 40% of which are difficult. One of the slopes is designed for night skiing. A freestyle park, a toboggan run, a children’s slope, several schools, equipment rental and ski pass sales are organized.

The hotel is half a kilometer from the Skigebiet Meiringen Hasliberg ski lift. Single and double roomsare available for accommodation. The design of the rooms is made in delicate beige shades, additional comfort is created by home textiles and sofa cushions with hand embroidery. The restaurant specialises in regional and vegetarian cuisine. In the morning – a common breakfast, in the evening – à la carte service. The garden has a terrace and a rooftop sauna. An additional fee is required for its visit. Parking spaces are available free of charge. Bus stops are within walking distance and take you to local attractions.

The hotel is located opposite the Hasliberg Reuti ski lift (100 m across the street). Guests are accommodated in single, double and family rooms. Here, not only in the “Comforts”, but also in the “Standards” there are extra beds. There are several rooms for people with disabilities. The restaurant serves Swiss and international dishes. Breakfast is included in the payment of accommodation. It offers a bar, library, terrace with panoramic views, children’s playroom, organization of excursions.

Parkhotel du Sauvage
Half a kilometer from the Bergbahn Meiringen-Hasliberg lift, this 4-star hotelis located in a building dating from 1880. Beautiful art nouveau house surrounded on all sides by a park. Double, triple and family rooms are decorated according to the fashion of the early 20th century. Stylization under the “century past” does not affect the level of comfort. Each room has a bathroom and household appliances listed in the registry. Meals can be arranged at the Belle Epoque restaurant. A daily breakfast is served in the room. Guests can relax in the English bar with conservatory and on the summer terrace. Parking on site is free. The hotel does not have its own spa, so guests can enjoy the services of public swimming pools and the Meiringen fitness room. Visiting objects is paid.

The 4-star Hotel Dakota is 700 metres from the Bergbahn Meiringen – Hasliberg ski lift. Rooms with panoramic windows, balconies-terraces are equipped with furniture for relaxation. The on-site restaurant serves Italian cuisine and serves breakfast in the morning. For relaxation there is a small spa area, a bar with a good cocktail list. For accommodation there are single, double, family rooms and suites. All hotels in Meiringen provide free internet access, but the Dakotas do not yet have such a service. The 3-star Hotel Meiringen is 200 metres from the Meiringen Hasliberg ski lift and a two-minute walk to Meiringen Train Station. Rooms are designed for 2, 3 and 4 guests. Spacious and bright rooms are decorated in a classic style, without frills and unnecessary decorations. At the reception you can buy ski passes, for storing skis there is a separate room. The Bahnhöfli pizzeria is also available. Breakfast is served in the breakfast room and Italian specialities are served throughout the day. Parking is paid, there is no fitness center, it is proposed to use the services of the public health complex of the city.

SWISSPEAK Resort Meiringen
The resort hotel complex consists of 6 four-storey buildings. It is represented by the international company Interhome, which has been working in the field of hospitality since 1963 and specializes in providing low-cost housing. The main number of rooms consists of apartments with an equipped kitchen. In total, SWISSPEAK has 79 comfortable apartments. Since February 2020, guests have at their disposal: a wine bar, a sauna with a relaxation room, a gym, a children’s playroom, a games room, a conference room and bicycle parking. The house has a shared garage (for an additional fee), 600 meters away – public parking (for an additional fee). Convenient location in the city centre, just 200 metres from Meiringen Train Station and 1000 metres from the gondola lift of the Meiringen-Hasliberg Ski Area.

The apartments are located in the attic of a three-storey house. A separate elevator leads to it. It offers an equipped kitchen, a terrace with mountain views, a fitness club on the 1st floor of the building with a sauna and Weellnesscenter. Private parking is available in the courtyard and is free of charge. The total area of the apartments is 50 sq.m. Smoking is not allowed. This is a young family with three children, who lives in the same house on the 1st floor. They are avid travelers, so they know how to organize an active holiday for visiting tourists. They will prompt interesting excursion routes and will do everything possible to ensure that hotel guests come to them again. Tourists traveling on their own may be interested in the possibility of free parking in the courtyard of the house.
