The former Novgorod pogost of Mikkeli was founded in 1270. Over the centuries, the territory passed to Sweden, then to Russia, until it became part of a sovereign Finland. The city was founded in 1838 by decree of Emperor Nicholas I. Until 1917, it was part of the Russian state. Due to its favorable location, in 1918 the hotel “Seurahuone” housed the headquarters of the White Guard troops. In those years, there were already luxury hotels in the city. From 1941 to 1943, the headquarters of the commander-in-chief of the Finnish army, Karl Mannerheim, was based here.

Dishes, grill, barbecue area with benches. A separate approach leads to the lake. At the pier there is always a boat ready to sail. The large sauna has a swimming pool and even a drying cabinet where we were able to dry wet clothes and towels. The hostess is very friendly, always answers questions and fulfills requests. Not far from Lake Sakalampi is an old villa,which today houses one of the most unique and comfortable hotels. Rooms at Tertin Kartano are individually decorated. Interiors are not repeated. Natalia: “This is a real Finnish manor, and located near the border. The master’s house, guest house, restaurant and shop with farm products create a complete architectural ensemble. Lovely courtyard with large lawn and driveway. Interesting interior of the rooms with various details. Each interior thing has its own story. We occupied two rooms at once because there were 6 of us. The rooms are fully equipped with furniture, linen, bathroom amenities, umbrellas, and even rubber boots for bad weather. The hosts prepared clean bedding. The rooms are very warm, we even opened the windows. It is very quiet and comfortable. In the morning we had an amazing breakfast. Food in the estate is a separate delight and respect for the owners and chefs. Simple but very tasty dishes made from homemade products are just what we needed before the road.”

 

 

 

Lingonberry Small Cottage with Sauna
