The former Novgorod pogost of Mikkeli was founded in 1270. Over the centuries, the territory passed to Sweden, then to Russia, until it became part of a sovereign Finland. The city was founded in 1838 by decree of Emperor Nicholas I. Until 1917, it was part of the Russian state. Due to its favorable location, in 1918 the hotel “Seurahuone” housed the headquarters of the White Guard troops. In those years, there were already luxury hotels in the city. From 1941 to 1943, the headquarters of the commander-in-chief of the Finnish army, Karl Mannerheim, was based here.

Lovely courtyard with large lawn and driveway. Interesting interior of the rooms with various details. Each interior thing has its own story. We occupied two rooms at once because there were 6 of us. The rooms are fully equipped with furniture, linen, bathroom amenities, umbrellas, and even rubber boots for bad weather. The hosts prepared clean bedding. The rooms are very warm, we even opened the windows. It is very quiet and comfortable. In the morning we had an amazing breakfast. Food in the estate is a separate delight and respect for the owners and chefs. Simple but very tasty dishes made from homemade products are just what we needed before the road.”
