The Swiss municipality of Grindelwald is known in the world as the most popular Alpine ski resort. The availability of pistes of all levels of difficulty attracts skiers and snowboarders from all over the world. Since the end of the 18th century, tourists from England and then other European countries began to come here. The first hotel appeared at the same time. Grindelwald hotels may well compete with the expensive and prestigious Zermatt, and the tracks are not inferior to St. Moritz.
Resort infrastructure
A total of 51 tracks have been developed, 20% of which are black slopes. The total length is 200 km. There are separate areas for cross-country skiing, ski slopes and walking trails. The tracks are served by 47 lifts. The resort’s hotels provide information to their guests about the schedule of the cable car, bus transport, as well as the location of the slopes. Near each lift there are points of sale of ski passes and ski equipment rental. The season runs from November to April.
Where to go in your spare time?
The municipality does not have special historical monuments, but some objects deserve special attention. Among them:
- 12th century church built;
- Jungfrujoch Railway Station (3400 m);
- ice gorge with amazing blue ice;

Almost every month, Grindelwald hosts various festivals. They traditionally diversify the leisure of visitors to the city.
