The cultural capital of Russia St. Petersburg is one of the most popular destinations in the tourism business. About each architectural, cultural or memorable object in the city center you can write a whole book. A separate history deserves the hotel “Angleterre”,the facade of which overlooks St. Isaac’s Square. Guests of St. Petersburg, who have ever been here, do not even doubt that this is the best place for the quality of service and living conditions.
Location and history
The hotel is located in the historical center of St. Petersburg. Its name is often associated with the death of the Russian poet Sergei Yesenin. But those who want to visit the room where the poet lived, waiting for disappointment. In 1987, the old building was demolished. In its place, a new one was built, and only a completely copied facade unites it with a historical object. The hotel was rebuilt in 1991. The preservation of the external architectural component was monitored by the designer Olga Polizzi. The work was carried out according to the project of A. Robin, who rebuilt the building in 1846. Who was the first architect is unknown.
After demolition and rebuilding, the hotel entered into a single complex with Astoria. Two fashionable hotels mainly received foreign tourists. The service was focused on their needs, personnel who spoke several languages were selected. To date, Angleterre is equipped with 3 conference rooms equipped with translation systems into 4 languages. Currently, the hotel is part of the British hotel chain Rocco Forte Hotels (since 1997). It has a category of 4 stars and offers guests of the city comfortable living conditions and impeccable service.
Its location is considered the best for tourists and business people coming to St. Petersburg. Usually it is from St. Isaac’s Cathedral that acquaintance with the history and culture of the city begins. The rest of the largest tourist sites – Nevsky Prospekt, the Hermitage, the Russian Museum, the Mariinsky Palace, Senate Square – are within walking distance.
